Since the founding of the SLGS by the CMS in 1845 through the change to a Government-assisted school in 1942 and subsequently to an Independent Institution on September 1st 2007, we have seen two to three generations of Regentonians with fundamentally similar experiences. Unfortunately, the present generation of Regentonians has significant challenges in their path to acquiring education. This could change the Regontonian experience for the worse. How effectively the administration of the school handles these challenges will shape our legacy and the Regentonian experience in the future. The SLGSAANA will continue to serve as a conduit for communication between Regentonians in Sierra
Leone and in the diaspora so as to provide you with information on successes and failure, new and old challenges, and the vision of the school as we move forward in our second year of autonomy and ahead in the 21st century. Your sensitivity and commitment is needed more than ever before. »Read More...
Address delivered by the Principal at the banquet dance of the Sierra Leone Grammar School Alumni Association of North America In Washington D.C.
on Saturday, 29th November 2008
Introduction
We bring you warm greetings from the Regantonian family at home in Sierra Leone and
especially from the Board of Governors, Staff, Pupils and Mr. Winston Jones, the new President of the Old Boys Union.
From small beginnings in 1985, the Sierra Leone Grammar School Alumni Association of
North America has developed into a strong organization making significant contributions
to the development of our Alma Mater. Permit us to highlight some of the Association' s
major interventions. These include the construction of a new roof over the Science Block
to end the leakage which was being experienced, the provision of books, laboratory
equipment and computers to enhance teaching and learning, the creation of a revolving
fund for the prompt payment of salaries when the school was government-assisted and
delays were being experienced, the provision of a Bus to ease the transportation problems
faced by staff, the institution of the "Teacher of the Year" Award and payment of stipends
to boost staff morale, the provision of scholarships to deserving pupils who consistently
performed well, the supply of school colours to ensure their continual availability, the
provision of funds to meet litigation expenses for the recovery of our land and construction
of a wall to secure the property. These and several others are shining examples of the
Association ' s assistance to the school. »Read More...
